The Next Best Time is Today

There is an old proverb that says, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The next best time is today.” As we approach a new year, this wisdom speaks to where many of us find ourselves—thinking about time, choices, unrealized dreams, and what may still be possible.

Reflection is natural during this season. We think about the wins, the lessons, the growth, and the moments we are grateful for. But reflection sometimes brings regret. Maybe there is something you wish you had started years ago: a business, a healthier lifestyle, a creative dream, a shift in your career, deeper personal growth, or healing in an important relationship. Many people quietly convince themselves it is too late, so they stop planting.

Clarity is not about beating ourselves up for what we did not do. Clarity is about acknowledging truth without shame and choosing to move forward intentionally.

Two things stop most people. Comparison and self-story. We compare our journey to others and assume we are behind. Then we tell ourselves limiting narratives like, “I missed my chance,” or “It’s too late now.” Those are not facts—they are simply stories. And stories can be rewritten.

I have seen this firsthand with clients. One woman spent years wishing she had started her consulting business sooner. She finally decided to begin anyway. Today she has clients, confidence, and peace. Another client believed the meaningful part of her life had already passed. Through clarity, courage, and intentional steps, she discovered joy was still available.

Just like a tree, change takes time. Yes, it would have been wonderful to start earlier. But starting now is still powerful. One year from today you will see growth. In a few years you will see strength. The only thing worse than not starting long ago is refusing to start now.

So ask yourself: What have you been putting off because you believe it is too late? What deserves to be planted today? You do not have to transform everything at once. Just take one intentional step.

If you are ready to step forward with clarity, strength, and support, I would love to walk alongside you. For 2026, there are opportunities for one-on-one consulting, virtual mastermind groups, and virtual bootcamps to help you move from intention to reality. Your future still matters—and beautiful things can still grow from what you choose to plant today.
